What is an E-Audit?

Electronic auditing, or e-auditing, is computer-assisted auditing that uses electronic records to complete all of your audit. This follows similar procedures as a traditional audit but using electronic means to remotely perform the audit. E-auditing is also known as Remote Auditing. For any number of reasons, having an auditor physically inside your walls for an audit can prove unnecessary and expensive with many types of audits. In todays global environment with many organization's staff working from home, we are moving into a period of time where technology has enabled new types of audits that don’t require the auditor's physical presence.

This can be performed using video conferencing and screen sharing software including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, etc. All documents can be shared through Sharefile, Dropbox, Email or similar secure document sharing platforms.

Conducting an e-audit has many benefits including saving time and money, eliminate travel, less paper required, reviewing and tracking the audit in real-time for a quicker turn around. For nonprofits in high cost of living areas such as New York or California, this can result in a significant savings of 25% or more.

Richard Bennoch CPA has been in public accounting for 24 years working exclusively with nonprofit organizations. He was an audit manager with one of Houston's largest CPA firms over their nonprofit clients. In addition, he was the owner and partner of his own CPA firm over the last 11 years solely devoted to nonprofit organizations. His experience has been with charitable organizations, Churches, charter schools, private schools, chamber of commerce, membership organizations, animal shelters, women and child advocacy groups, and habitat for humanity organizations.
